Disclaimer

Know Your Plate publishes recipes and general information about food and healthy eating. It is not medical advice, and it is not dietary advice for your specific situation.

This is a food site, not a medical one

Nadia Brooks is a home cook and food writer. She is not a physician, a nurse, a registered dietitian, or a certified diabetes care and education specialist. Nothing published here has been reviewed by one, and nothing here should be read as a clinical recommendation.

Recipes and articles on this site describe how food is prepared and how certain eating habits are generally understood to work. They do not diagnose anything, they do not treat anything, and they cannot account for your medications, your lab results, your allergies, your kidney function, or anything else your care team knows about you.

Talk to your own care team

Decisions about your diabetes care, your nutrition plan, your medication, and your blood sugar targets belong to you and the professionals who actually know your history. That means your doctor, your dietitian, or your diabetes educator. Please bring questions to them, and please do not delay or skip their advice because of something you read here.

If you think you are having a medical emergency, including severe low or high blood sugar, contact emergency services or your doctor right away. Do not look for the answer on a recipe site.

What we will never claim

No food on this site cures diabetes. No food on this site reverses or prevents diabetes. No recipe here is promised to lower your A1C, and we will not tell you that any dish will produce a particular result in your body. Individual responses to the same meal vary widely, including between two people with the same diagnosis.

Nutrition figures and accuracy

Where nutrition information or cooking times appear, they are estimates. Ingredients differ by brand, produce differs by size, and ovens lie. Treat the numbers as a starting point rather than a measurement of what ends up on your plate.

We try to keep articles accurate and current, but we make no warranty that everything here is complete or free of error, and we are not liable for what happens if you rely on it. Use your judgment, and use your care team.

Independence

Know Your Plate is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any pharmaceutical company, health system, medical association, government health agency, or public health campaign, past or present. Where a reputable organization is mentioned as a general reference, that mention is not a claim of affiliation.

Questions about any of this can go to [email protected].
